Cleaning and storage of dive gear
Welcome party (BYOB)
FIELD WORK - For 4 days before the morning boat dives, the dive boat will bring volunteers to the deployment location. The video camera and FAD unit will be deployed. About 12 hours later, the dive boat will return to retrieve the unit, then we change batteries, SD card and turn on the light and redeploy in the same location for about 12 hours of night recording. Next morning, we retrieve, change SD card, batteries and turn off the light and re-deploy. This process is repeated for the 4 days at the same location. In Bequia this is the same location as Trap #5 tests in 2018 where invasive Lionfish aggregation was consistent 14 out of 14 days of observation. At the end of the week we transport the unit via ferry to St Vincent Island where the tests are repeated at a new location.
VOLUNTEERS - No special training is needed and each volunteer will be assigned a duty each time based on participation. Volunteers will help with building the unit, deployment and retrieval of the unit from depths of about 110 feet, record videos and photographs of the field testing, help with collecting and preserving data, and helping to deal with issues that may arise like damage to the unit, or other issues.
DONATION - Each person attending in the package will receive a receipt for a tax deductible $100 USD donation to ReefSave that is included in the total price. Any donor of $175 or more will receive a Reefsavers commemorative collared T-shirt, acknowledgement on our website, and our deepest thanks.
A package participant can donate $75 USD and it is added to the included $100 for a combined receipt for $175 and recognition as a Reefsaver, along with the commemorative collared T-shirt.
If a participant attends both weeks, Bequia and St Vincent, they will also qualify as a Reefsaver, get recognition and receive the commemorative collared T-shirt.
SCUBA DIVING - Certified divers who have had a dive within 1 year simply need to complete the standard PADI medical release form and waiver form for the dive shop. These will be provided after payment. If you have not had a dive in more than a year from the date of the first dive, you will be required to do a refresher course. This is standard practice throughout the industry.
NON-DIVERS - If you are a non-diver and wish to volunteer and stay in out block of rooms, please contact us at info@reefsave.org
SINGLE DIVERS - The single supplement for a single scuba diver in the room is 50%. However, we may be able to match you with another single to share a double room. Contact us at info@reefsave.org for assistance.
